PyMalta: First Steps towards Machine Learning (Part 1) @ Binary (Europe) Ltd

PyMalta is organising the first part of a 2-part series on Machine Learning using Scikit-Learn. The meetup will be held at the offices of in Birkirkara.

In this first session, I will give an introduction to Machine Learning, the different types of problems we try to solve and how to use the very powerful Scikit-Learn as the workhorse for most of our ML applications. In particular, I will be picking up on Supervised Binary Classification for this session.

I will introduce the metrics we try to optimize and the why and how we do Feature Engineering. I will then dive into our first ML model – Decision Trees.

I will go over the fundamentals, some basic mathematics, which hyper parameters we should optimize and why this model works in certain situation as opposed to others. To finish off, we will be doing a tutorial where you will be able to try out the stuff in the previous sections.

This will be a tutorial style meetup, not a lecture. I will be coding up some components as I go along and you can try this stuff on your own.

See the event page for the agenda, more details, and to RSVP. If you plan to attend, aside from RSVP’ing, don’t forget to bring a laptop with Python 3.7 and Anaconda installed.
